Closing the Gap: Test and Learn

Closing the Gap: Test and Learn is a scheme, funded by NCTL, which provides grants for schools and teachers to get involved in rigorous research.  Glyn is one of only 25 recently designated Teaching Schools selected to take part in the second year of this research programme.  180 other schools tested interventions in the first year of the programme.

The aims of programme are:

  • To help improve the evidence-base for what works in closing the attainment gap for disadvantaged pupils
  • To stimulate robust research and development in schools.

Listed below are the possible trials for the second year of the ‘Test and Learn’ scheme:

After expressing a preference for delivering a specific intervention, participating schools will deliver an intervention according to an agreed protocol, with training beginning in the autumn term. Pupil progress in schools that are delivering the intervention will be compared against progress in schools that are not using that intervention to determine its effect.

Glyn and Hillcroft Primary will be running Growth Mindset interventions; Hurst Park will be focusing on Numicon and Marden Lodge on Response to Intervention: Breakthroughs for Literacy.
