Sport and Extracurricular Clubs Update

Sport and Extracurricular Clubs Update

In preparation for students’ return to school, we would like to provide families with some clarification about sporting opportunities which are planned to re-start for our students.  Please note that, although students will still be in their designated Year group bubbles, they will be continuing to mix with students from other classes within those Year groups.

Unless Government guidance advises otherwise, please see the list below of Extracurricular Clubs which will be re-starting from Monday 15 March.  This is due to students being required to undergo lateral flow testing in the week commencing 8 March.

Please Note:

  • Year 13 PPE examinations will be running in the Sports Hall for the entirety of the week commencing 15 March.  As such, students should bring appropriate outdoor attire for those clubs which would usually take place in the Sports Hall throughout that week.
  • All clubs will run as normal in their usual locations from the week commencing 22 March.

We will endeavour to continue to provide as many sporting opportunities for our students as possible, within Government guidelines.  We will also inform families immediately via the school Newsletter of any changes to Extracurricular Clubs, if necessary.

Games Lessons

Upon their return, students in Years 7, 8 and 9 will be taking part in Rugby in their Games lessons.  In line with current Government Covid-19 guidance, please note that there will be no contact element between students.  As such, students will not require gum shields.  Their Games kit is the same as that in the Autumn Term, although students do not need shin pads.

Year 10 and Year 11 students remain in their designated Games and PE groups and locations, as before, until they hear otherwise from the PE department.

Kit Requirements

We are aware that there has been some disruption to the supply of kit with our uniform supplier, Stevensons, for reasons beyond their control.  As such, some families are still awaiting their orders.  Please note that students may wear other appropriate active wear alternatives for their Games and PE lessons until the supply issue is resolved; please ensure that your child’s PE teacher is aware in advance via email.  After the Easter break, the weather often improves.  As such, students have the option of wearing their PE kit (crew neck or polo top) for Games lessons in place of their Games shirt.  If adopting this approach now saves families the cost of replacing a lost or ill-fitting Games top for the short remainder of this Spring term, we are more than happy for students to wear their Summer term tops.

Games Top Exchange - Glyn PSA

In a new optional initiative, the Glyn PSA is offering a Games top exchange programme.  Families are asked to donate their child’s current Games top if it is too small and in good order.  Your child’s name will then be added to a list for a second-hand Games top in the next available larger size at a cost of £12.50, rather than families having to purchase a new top at £32.00rrp.

Please contact the Glyn PSA via email glynpsa@outlook.com for further details of the Games top exchange.

Thank you, as always, for your continued support. Our students’ mental, social, and physical wellbeing continues to be of paramount importance to us.

Mr Scorgie, Acting Director of Sport and Head of PE
