Easter Message from Mr Duffield

As the Glyn community head off into the Easter break, I am struck by the fantastic commitment shown by our students this term.  We all know that there is a strong link between attendance and eventual academic achievement, and we are consequently really proud of the efforts that our students made in maintaining such high levels of attendance throughout the early part of this term, during our remote provision.  All of us at Glyn School  are now working hard to ensure that any impact of the lockdowns and self-isolation on our students’ overall educational experiences are minimised and ultimately mitigated, and we are confident that by working with them, and indeed with their families, there will be no lasting impact for any of them.  The fact that they have all responded so positively, not just through their attendance and engagement earlier this term but have displayed such focus and maturity since we re-opened on 8 March, demonstrates clearly their own commitment to putting the past year behind us.

Spring is traditionally a time of renewal and this is the point in the year where we announce our new Student Leadership Team, and the Head Boy and Head Girl, but first I would like to pay tribute and give genuine thanks to our outgoing Student Leadership team.  The many Prefects, Senior Prefects, Deputy Head Boys and Girls and of course our outgoing Head Boy, Nathan, and Head Girl, Nell, have in the past year made a genuine contribution to this school, in very difficult circumstances.  The time and endeavour that they have sacrificed, in this most important year for them, should not be underestimated, and they have represented the students of Glyn School fantastically well.

Throughout a rigorous selection process, it was clear that each of this year’s candidates had what it takes to lead our Student Leadership Team and would undoubtedly make exceptional representatives for the school and our student body.  Nonetheless, through that process there could only be two names to emerge and I am delighted to announce that your new Head Girl and Head Boy will be Jess and Kye, and they are joined by their team of Deputies, Lottie, Ela, Larissa, Joby, James, Nicholas and Toby.

Like the rest of the country, next term will see the school begin to cautiously open up to more activities; things that we once took for granted.  The key point here is caution.  It remains so incredibly vital that we all continue to play our part in ensuring the safety of one another.  I am so grateful for the commitment that our students have shown in this regard, in particular the adherence to mask wearing and regular LFD testing, and I am delighted that our community has thankfully seen very little disruption through the need to self-isolate since our return a few weeks ago. Nonetheless, as with the attitudes necessary for academic success, we simply cannot allow complacency or apathy to undermine the final goal and the progress achieved so far.

Thank you to all within our community for your continued support - it is very much appreciated. I wish you all continued good health and a wonderful Easter break.

Matt Duffield, Executive Headteacher
