Mrs Garrod - Incredibly Proud of All Our Students
As we reach the end of this half term, this week we have been celebrating the numerous achievements of our students over the past six weeks.
So much happens at Glyn School on a regular basis to make us proud of our students:
This week, our U15B Football team reached the National Cup Final, giving our talented players the opportunity to play at West Bromwich Albion FC’s ground - The Hawthorns. Although we lost 2-0 to Wright Robinson College – many congratulations from Glyn School to Wright Robinson College for the win - the conduct of all our students, both those on the pitch and those in the stands, was exemplary. Tauseef 10SB was announced as Player of the Match; congratulations to him. I was immensely proud of each and every player in our U15B football team and it was an absolute privilege for me to be there to watch the match.
I received an email this week from a member of the public who had dropped her purse as she got off a bus one evening. One of our Year 9 students retrieved it from some other youths and took it home to his mother. They managed to find the lady’s address and our student took the purse to the lady that evening. This was a wonderful example of true integrity and is one of the characteristics that we try to build with our students.
On Sunday 22 May, six former Glyn students were awarded their Gold DofE Award at Buckingham Palace, which is the pinnacle of the Duke of Edinburgh Awards. (you can read more about this in the Enrichment section of this Newsletter).
On Sunday 22 May, groups of our students took part in The Marsden March, raising money for an incredible cancer charity. The students walked 15 miles in aid of the charity event in support of one of their friends who had received treatment from The Marsden team.
On another note of celebration, we have 87 students with 100% attendance this academic year; this is no mean feat considering the restrictions we have had to live with this year. It is well documented that students with excellent attendance also achieve excellent outcomes, so congratulations to those 87 students.
As a school, we award Achievement Points, and this academic year we have awarded 85,726 to date - currently, the student with the highest Achievement Points is Rayyan K 9T with 307 - what fantastic achievements from all who have been awarded points.
I have mentioned above just a few examples of our students’ exemplary conduct and achievements. However, it is just as important that we recognise the fantastic things our students do on a daily basis; try hard, know right from wrong, display good manners and spread kindness. We are all incredibly proud of all our students and the contributions they make to Glyn School.
