Since 2009 Glyn School has been designated as a ‘National Support School’ by the National College for Leadership of Schools and Children’s Services. This designation is in recognition of our proven track record of outstanding leadership and management, the achievement of outstanding results for the community, and successfully providing school-to-school support to other schools.
We are delighted that the work the staff and governors have been providing at Glyn School for some years has now been recognised at a national level. This status now allows us to expand our support we give and at the same time to continue to keep improving the quality of education we provide for all our students.
Accredited ITT Provider (training provided through Glyn Surrey SCITT)
In July 2015, GLF Schools was accredited as an Approved Provider of Initial Teacher Training (ITT). This means that GLF Schools are able to provide programmes and assessment leading to the award of Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) for successful candidates. This accreditation acknowledges our vast expertise in ITT, which has seen Glyn School train over 50 primary and secondary teachers on the School Direct programme, and hundreds more on the PGCE route.
From September 2016, Glyn Surrey SCITT will offer school-led teacher training across an ever-growing alliance of schools in Surrey and beyond. This new accreditation will allow us to devise first rate programmes and assessment to ‘grow our own’ primary and secondary teachers and meet the needs of our partner schools.
We acknowledge the role of HEIs in ITT and continue to value our partnership with a number of universities, including UCL/Institute of Education and St Mary’s University (Twickenham).

Glyn School has always been confident in its ability to meet and exceed national standards for gaining accreditation as an organisation which values and supports all colleagues. Due to our dedication to continually improve upon our Bronze accreditation awarded in 2011, Glyn School qualified for the Investors in People Silver Award in July 2014 in recognition to our many areas of strength and good practice. We are delighted that, following a reassessment, the school has again been reaccredited Silver Award on 3 March 2017.
The assessment highlighted excellent practice across the Investors in People framework, in particular our high quality and range of CPD activities, the very positive and supportive relationships throughout the school and the encouragement of everyone regardless of their role or level of experience.
In 2014 Glyn School was reaccredited with a full Investor in Careers award having demonstrated a commitment to provide impartial, independent careers education, information, advice and guidance to all young people. This is one of the highest accolades an organisation can receive for excellence in this area of work. The Investors in Careers standard is about improving students’ awareness of opportunities, raising their aspirations and working with them to ensure they achieve their full potential.
Glyn School has won two 2014 SSAT Educational outcomes Awards for exceptional attainment and progress. The awards recognise Glyn's achievement of being in the top 10% of non-selective schools nationally for attainment and in the top 20% of schools nationally for value added progress.
The International School Award has been accredited to Glyn School by the British Council in recognition of its work to bring the world into the classroom. The Award is a badge of honour for schools that do outstanding work in international education, fostering an international dimension in the curriculum so that young people gain the cultural understanding and skills they need to live and work as global citizens. We are working in partnerships with schools overseas to teach our students about life in other countries and develop them as global citizens; this programme also allows the sharing of best teaching practice with other schools.
The Global Learning Programme (GLP) is a government-funded programme that aims to support and develop global learning across schools. The GLP is intended to be a whole school programme which embeds global learning principles in the curriculum, in pastoral work and in the wider life of the school.
The GLP is built around a series of local, school-based networks backed up by a national programme of support and action. This year, Glyn School has been selected to become an Expert Centre to deliver the programme to partner schools in the surrounding area.
The Global Learning Programme is also being recognised by Ofsted for its contribution to students’ SMSC and curriculum knowledge about global issues.
The Geographical Association awarded Glyn School with the Secondary Geography Quality Mark (SGQM) in September 2014 in recognition of excellence in teaching and learning in Geography
The SGQM award process encourages and supports schools to reflect on their work and strive for the highest quality in their teaching. Glyn underwent a rigorous moderation process, and the team of assessors were hugely impressed by the manner in which Glyn embraces new and innovative approaches to teaching geography. The award recognises student attainment, progress and achievement in areas such as geographical knowledge, understanding, values, skills and concepts, and sets expectations about the quality of teaching in Geography. It also promotes effective subject leadership and management.
Glyn School has been awarded the School Games Mark Gold Award which is owned and created by the Department of Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) and is implemented and developed by the Youth Sport Trust and Sport England.. This Mark rewards us for our commitment to and the development of competition, school sport and physical education.
