On A Cold and Frosty Morning

On A Cold and Frosty Morning

‘Make hay while the sun shines’ or, in the case of Key Stage 3 Virtual Science Club, carry out experiments on ice when it is cold and frosty.

During last week’s cold snap, students placed identical containers of water at varying distances from their houses to see what effect this would have on the ice that formed. Students then measured the thickness of the ice in each container and made some conclusions from the results:

Dillan 7D concluded that the container placed closest to his house was less frozen because the heat from the house would affect it.

Josh 7M made a similar conclusion, but also observed that all of the samples placed furthest from the house were of the same thickness because they had reached a constant temperature.
