House Art Results

Whilst the art world at large is buzzing with the hushed whispers of who may this year win the coveted Turner Prize, there has been an art competition running closer to home which has gathered just as much attention.

Glyn School’s Art & Design department has been inundated with over 300 entries for the first House event of the academic year, House Art 2018. Students were tasked with creating a piece of artwork in response to the question “What does Art look like in my other subjects?”. Entries had to be A3 in size, but could be made using any type of media and materials. Students’ responses were amazingly creative, showing there really is art to be seen in every moment of the school day.

Special mention goes to Oaks House who entered over 100 entries completed by students during Tutor time. This showed great team spirit and is proof that it is the ‘taking part’ that counts. Also worthy of merit are 7 Abbey and 9 Abbey who submitted 10 and 6 excellent entries, respectively, all of which were made at home, proving their commitment and creativity as a House of future artists to watch! Last, but by no means least, a creative commendation must go to Miss Caverhill’s 11 Abbey Form group who submitted 14 photographic entries of science equipment. Who knew conical flasks were so photogenic?

Finally, it gives me great pleasure to announce the winning entries:

1st place:            Owen in 9D - Winner of £50 Pullinger’s, Epsom, voucher.

2nd place:           Adam in 11O - Winner of £20 Pullinger’s Epsom voucher.

Joint 3rd place:   Thomas in 7B & Miles in 8A - Winners of sketchbooks and sketching pencils.

Special commendation is awarded to Alex in 7B whose artwork was exhibited at Bourne Hall, as selected by his primary school last academic year.

All of the above artists had their work exhibited at Bourne Hall, as part of the Epsom and Ewell Arts Festival.

Huge congratulations to all the young artists who took part.
