World Book Day Engagement

World Book Day - Wonderful Student Engagement

Yesterday, Thursday 4 March, was World Book Day, which is a day each year dedicated to celebrating and promoting reading, as well as encouraging young people to find the joy and endless adventures lurking on their bookshelves.  Like everything else this year, World Book Day 2021 looked a little different at Glyn School, but many students still found time to discuss, share and be creative with their most loved books and stories. In a time when we are confined to the same rooms and buildings, books enable us to escape into endless different worlds and to meet so many weird and wonderful characters.

From English lessons on much-loved extracts and tales, to Form time 'Guess the Teacher Hiding Behind the Book' quizzes, students made some lovely contributions to discussions on reading and hopefully took the time to get away from their screens and disappear into the pages of a story for a while.

In the LRC, the ever-popular competitions ran in a virtual format and included 'Toilet Roll and Wooden Spoon Characters', a 'Literary Bake Off' and book cover designing.  Despite working from home, our students definitely didn't fail to impress, sending in some brilliant entries, including superhero toilet rolls, a Charlie and the Chocolate Factory cake and Gruffalo cupcakes. There will be lots of prizes awarded upon students’ return to the school site. Well done to all those involved.

I would like to say a particular thank you to Miss Phillips and Mrs Woolridge for all of their hard work and organisation to make World Book Day 2021 happen, under unusual circumstances.

Happy Reading!
