Coffee, Carrots and Cotton Buds!

Art lessons delivered remotely can present a challenge when working with limited materials at home. The challenge was bravely overcome this week by our highly creative and resourceful Year 8 students as they ruthlessly emptied kitchen drawers and bathroom cupboards at home to find alternative ‘paintbrushes ‘ to experiment with mark making.  No paintbrush? No problem!  The Year 8 students joined our lessons equipped with cotton buds, twigs, feathers, carrots, silver foil, dried spaghetti and other weird and wonderful 'tools' to paint with. Paint was imaginatively prepared using different strengths of coffee, tea, tomato ketchup, mustard and earth from the garden. Leading the lessons, Mrs Dacey found inspiration from the ‘bangers and mash’ she had prepared during the week and added gravy to her teacher exemplar.  I believe Year 8 students will agree that it was a hugely enjoyable experimental lesson and added to our enrichment,  resilience and wellbeing during this difficult time of lockdown; albeit a little messy in the lesson!  Well done to Year 8 Art students.
