Combining Skills

DT pic

Year 8 St Benet students Jamie, Ata-Ul, Billy and Harry, with partners Dan and James, have been busy making models of North American windmills.

As part of the Sustainability element of Key Stage 3 Design Technology, these windmills are made from reclaimed materials and, when spinning, can produce enough power to light a low voltage LED. This project combines traditional making skills, Science and Technology knowledge, and an understanding of how energy generation is moving to a much more sustainable model. The project also makes great use of those no longer needed plastic spoons!
