Wishing You a Wonderful Spring

Within this past week we have seen two significant but totally contrasting dates in our diaries; the first anniversary of the March 2020 lockdown, and the first day of Spring 2021. It struck me,  almost reminiscent of the opening line to Dickens’  ‘A Tale of Two Cities’ (“It was the best of times, it was the worst of times”) how we can be reflecting on a rather melancholy anniversary (lockdown) and celebrating a joyous event (the first day of Spring) within three days of each other.

At Glyn School, as a large community, we experience the full spectrum of the ups and the downs of everyday life; we have sorrows and triumphs, just like any large family.  We believe that it is important to address all manner of life experiences with our students, and our Assemblies and PSHCE (Personal, Social, Citizenship, Health and Emotional) lessons do not shy away from some difficult subjects. We hope that, when our students leave our care, they will do so as informed, mature and compassionate young people with the knowledge and skills to face the difficult times, and to enthusiastically celebrate the good!

Within this week’s Newsletter you will read about the very challenging charities that Bourne, St Benet and Tudor Houses are supporting, but you will also read about: an exciting Maths Challenge for Year 8 students, inspiring opportunities within our Careers page,  the huge effort that our PE and Games Faculty are making to offer students a plethora of activities to maximise physical and mental wellbeing,  interviews to select our next Head Girl and Head Boy, enthusiastic participation in House events, and a good deed by a Sixth Form student.

Wishing you all a wonderful Spring.

Ms Jones, Assistant Headteacher
