School Support: How We Work Together to Help Your Child
At Glyn School, we want every student to feel safe, supported, and ready to succeed. We know that attendance, punctuality, wellbeing, and learning can all be affected by challenges at home or school — and we are here to help.
Below is an overview of the different people and teams available to support your child and your family.
Pastoral Team - Form Tutor, Deputy Head of Year, Head of Year
Our pastoral team is the first point of contact for most students and parents. They support students with anything that may affect their wellbeing, confidence, relationships, or attendance.
They offer:
- Regular wellbeing check-ins
- Help with friendship worries or social challenges
- Support with organisation and routines
- Guidance if a child is feeling anxious or overwhelmed
- A friendly adult to talk to each day
They work closely with families to ensure students feel understood, supported, and ready to learn.
School Counsellor
Referral via Head of Year
Some students benefit from more focused emotional support. With parental consent, we can make a referral to our trained school counsellor, who can offer:
- A safe, confidential space to talk
- Support with low mood, anxiety, grief, stress, or confidence
- Emotional strategies and coping tools
- Short-term or longer-term sessions depending on need
Counselling can make a big difference for students experiencing more complex challenges.
SENCO (Special Educational Needs Coordinator)
Our SENCO leads support for students with:
- Neurodiversity (e.g. autism, ADHD)
- Learning needs
- Sensory needs
- Processing difficulties
- Diagnosed or emerging special educational needs
They work with students, families, and teachers to:
- Identify barriers to learning
- Put tailored strategies in place
- Provide classroom adjustments
- Coordinate referrals to outside agencies
- Support with key transitions and routines
This includes supporting attendance where anxiety, sensory overload, or other SEND needs are contributing factors.
Attendance Team
Our Attendance Team works with families to improve daily attendance and punctuality in a supportive, non-judgmental way. They can help with:
- Understanding any challenges affecting attendance
- Practical plans to support morning routines
- Early help referrals if needed
- Monitoring patterns and offering guidance
- Collaboration with pastoral staff, SENCO, and external services
Their goal is to work with you, not against you, to help your child attend school and succeed.
Family Support Worker
Some families benefit from additional help at home or with daily routines. Our Family Support Worker offers:
- Support with morning routines and organisation
- Help managing behaviour or emotional challenges
- Guidance around sleep, boundaries, or screen habits
- Support if there are wider family pressures
- A listening ear for parents
- Signposting to Early Help or community services
This support can make a huge difference to a child’s attendance, wellbeing, and confidence.
