U16B ESFA National Cup Semi Final Win

On 7 March, Glyn made the 101-mile journey down the M3 to Glenmoor and Winton Academies for a highly anticipated U16B National Cup semi-final. The chance to reach back-to-back National Cup finals was a mere 80 minutes away!

Glyn lined up, led by the ever-vocal captain, Oliver (11D), ready to do battle. It was Glyn who struck first with Leo (11B) stealing the ball off the toes of the defender before rounding the home team goalkeeper and coolly slotting into the open goal to make it 1-0 to Glyn. Excitement pulsated through the entire team. It was Leo who then struck again, finishing past a helpless keeper to make it 2-0 to Glyn.

The effort from the Glyn boys all over the pitch was outstanding. Oliver then made it 3-0 to Glyn just after halftime. A mix-up amongst the Glenmoor back line was read perfectly by Oliver who carried on his run and latched on to the missed pass to score a simple tap-in at the back post. Glyn did not rest on their lead and continued to mount more pressure in the second half forcing the Glenmoor players into further errors. This time it was George (11SB) who lashed the ball home from a corner to make it 4-0 and the Glyn team was flying.

After another flurry of attacks, Glyn had a penalty kick awarded after a foul on Oliver. Connor (11B) stepped up with composure and confidently placed the ball into the bottom left corner of the goal to make it 5-0. A goal that cracked the voices of Mr. Miller, Mr. Nimmo and Mr. Long!

Glenmoor did however score from a corner late on to steal a consolation goal against the run of play. This was then followed by a late penalty, which the hosts converted to make it 5-2. However, with only minutes left on the clock, it made no difference to the final outcome, and when the final whistle was eventually blown, the Glyn players celebrated with an outpouring of elation and pride at their exceptional team performance.

The boys have successfully secured their place in their second national cup final and hope to go one step further than they managed last year.
