Remote Learning

At Glyn School, we are committed to ensuring that all students continue to have access to high-quality education when circumstances mean that the school site cannot be open to students. Whilst face-to-face teaching remains the most effective way for students to learn, there may be occasions when remote education is required to enable learning to continue during periods of school closure or restricted access to the school.

This page outlines the arrangements for remote learning and sets out what students and parents/carers can expect should remote education be necessary.

When Remote Learning May Be Used

Examples of when we may need to use Remote Learning may include:

  • A partial or full school closure due to exceptional circumstances.
  • Severe weather, utility failures, or other events that impact normal school operations.
  • Public health incidents or restrictions affecting attendance.

Our Remote Learning Platform

Google Classroom is the school's primary platform for delivering remote learning.

Through Google Classroom, students can:

  • Access lesson resources and learning materials.
  • View assignments and submission deadlines.
  • Submit completed work electronically.
  • Access subject-specific online learning resources.
  • Keep up to date with class announcements and instructions.

Students should check their Google Classrooms regularly throughout the school day when learning remotely.

Expectations for Students

Students participating in remote learning are expected to:

  • Follow their normal timetable as closely as possible.
  • Engage with all assigned learning activities.
  • Complete and submit work by the deadlines provided.
  • Communicate appropriately and respectfully online.
  • Contact their teacher if they experience difficulties accessing learning or completing work.

Maintaining regular routines and good study habits is important to support progress and wellbeing during periods of remote learning.

Support and Communication

Pastoral and academic support will continue during periods of remote learning.

Students may receive support from:

  • Form Tutors
  • Heads of Year
  • Subject Teachers
  • The SEND Department
  • The Safeguarding Team

Where concerns arise regarding attendance, engagement or wellbeing, the school will work closely with students and families to provide appropriate support.

Support for Students with SEND

Glyn School recognises that some students may require additional support when learning remotely.

Where appropriate, teachers will make reasonable adjustments to learning activities and resources. The SEND team will continue to work with students, parents/carers and teaching staff to ensure individual needs are considered and supported.

Access to Technology

We understand that access to technology can sometimes present challenges.

If a student experiences difficulties with:

  • Access to a suitable device
  • Internet connectivity
  • Educational software or online platforms

Parents/carers should contact the school as soon as possible so that appropriate support can be explored.

Working Together with Parents and Carers

Parents and carers play an important role in supporting remote learning.

We encourage families to:

  • Help establish a regular daily routine.
  • Encourage students to engage fully with learning activities.
  • Provide a suitable workspace where possible.
  • Communicate any concerns to the school promptly.
  • Support students in maintaining a balance between study, wellbeing and recreation.

Strong communication between home and school helps ensure students remain engaged and successful in their learning.

Tips for Successful Learning at Home

  • Start each day at a consistent time.
  • Check Google Classroom for updates and assignments.
  • Create a quiet space for learning wherever possible.
  • Keep organised notes and resources.
  • Take regular movement and screen breaks.
  • Ask for help when needed.
  • Submit work on time and take pride in your learning.

At Glyn School, we believe that learning should remain engaging, challenging and supportive, whether it takes place in the classroom or at home. By working together, we can ensure that every student continues to make progress and achieve their potential.
