Glyn 1st XV Rugby Win Thriller Under Lights

The second of Glyn's 1XV league fixtures was at home to Eastbourne College With the fixture being suited to a later kick-off, the match was played under lights at Dorking RFC. A good crowd assembled for the match. Had they known it was going to be a thriller more might have made the journey to the leafy part of Surrey.

Eastbourne have been somewhat of a bogey team for Glyn over the last few years, knocking us out of cup competitions. With this in mind, it was going to be a tough game. Glyn started the better with lots of positions playing up the hill. Glyn scored first through captain Josh C (13SB), converted by Tom K (11SB). The Eastbourne side looked threatening straight from the kick-off scoring one back to make the score 7-7. Some moments of quality from our opponents lead to two more tires with only 8 minutes left to pay before the half.  Great resolve saw Glyn get a converted try through Louis V (and then what Mr Summers believed was the best try he's seen in a long time, where after several interchanges and a huge run from Jake B (13O2), Findlay K (12M1) went in under the posts, converted, 21-21 at half time.

Glyn needed to make the hill count and it was Centre, Gus H (13T) who managed to cross the line, however, the conversion missed. Eastbourne came back strong with some clever plays exploiting space out wide scoring a converted try with 15 minutes to go. Glyn had to score next otherwise all the hard work would put them on the back foot. Tom K (11SB) sent up a big kick into the night sky only for it to bounce into his arms and score under the post. A great show of how the younger players are made to feel was the delight with which the team celebrated with a student in some cases two years younger. Glyn held out and secured the win at 33-28.

Player of the match: Jake B (13O2) for his huge carries and relentless defensive efforts

A big thank you from all at Glyn for our sponsor Johnson's Independent Property Agencies based on Epsom Downs, for providing sponsorship for the kit and also for coming down to support the team. A big thank you also to all the parents, staff, students and families who supported the team.
