Surrey Schools Individual Swimming Championships

Last Saturday, 28 January Glyn’s swimming team went to the Surrey Schools Individual Swimming Championships at the Guildford Spectrum.

The Junior team was Ethan (7C) and George (7T) and both boys worked very hard in their individual events. Ethan swam in the 100m Backstroke race, swimming well, especially his turns. George swam in the 100m Butterfly race, where he performed very well, showing excellent technique and determination to finish in second place, receiving a Silver medal.

It was then the turn of the Intermediate boys, in which Ryan (10A) and Amri (10D) performed well in their respective events, Amri competed in the 100m Freestyle race and Ryan in the 100m Backstroke race. Both boys showed a good level of stamina and technique.

Finally, the Senior boys team which was made up of Daniel (13B), Victor (13B), Adam B (13O1), Todd (12B) and James (11C). There was added pressure on the team as they defended their title from last year. The team got off to an amazing start, as Todd swam in the 200m Individual Medley race, finishing 3rd and receiving a Bronze medal. Todd showed a good level of stamina and technique in all strokes of the event. Then Daniel entered the water to compete in the 100m Backstroke race. His performance was incredible as he dominated the rest of the swimmers, leading from start to finish, and receiving a deserved Gold medal. The form of the team continued as Victor entered the water for the 100m Breaststroke race. He showed excellent determination to see off his rivals in the first 25m of of the race which resulted in him finishing in 1st place, and collecting a Gold medal. James was next in the pool for the 100m Butterfly race. Performing against students 2 years above his age, James swam very well finishing in 4th position.

The final race of the evening was the 100m Freestyle race and the finale of the competition. Adam was ready for the races and having warmed up well, he went out hard and fast on the first 50m. Although fading towards the later part of the race, he finished in a very respectable 4th place.

All the swimmers swam very well on the evening, with the Senior team retaining their title and being crowned Surrey School Swimming Champions once again.
